While the US Open continued on Friday, Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe clashed in a long -awaited third round match. The All-American well-matching competition ended with Tiafoe Victorious 4-6, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 after five fascinating sets.

Tiafoe will pass in his fifth consecutive round from 16 to Flushing Meadows, where he will face Alexei Popyrin, who turned N ° 2 Novak Djokovic later on Friday.

Tiafoe and Shelton were well matched from the start, with Shelton, who pierced with a victory over Tiafoe last year, winning the first set with a 6-4 victory. In the second, Shelton took an early advance, but Tiafoe came from 5-4 to win the 7-5 set.

The third set was incredibly uniform, the players exchanging breaks on their way to an equality break, while playing high level tennis.

The equality break was more dramatic, as they are often. Shelton took an advance of 6-0, but Tiafoe responded by holding five consecutive points, largely of Shelton’s errors. He finished a short point, because Shelton struck an ace with a service of 143 mi / h to close the whole and take a 2-1 match advance.

Tiafoe took the lead at the start of the fourth set, increasing 3-2, but Shelton won the next match and brought things back to 3-3. The two exchanged a match each, before Tiafoe took an undisputed game to lead 5-4. In the decisive game, Tiafoe took advantage of some key errors from Shelton to win the 6-4 set.

Tiafoe broke Shelton at the start of the fifth set, and the younger player seemed to be too grassy to set up another return. A number of high -effort sets have caught up with it, while Tiafoe looked inflatable like never before.

The two Americans played their strengths well, with Shelton serving his usual staging while Tiafoe had excellent well -placed shots on the line. Tiafoe also took advantage of Shelton’s errors, while Shelton, 21, ended the match with 58 uncompvious mistakes against 27 of Tiafoe.

Shelton’s strength was rather in his service, with 23 AS and many more winners from Tiafoe.

Shelton against Tiafoe has become something of a rivalry in the past year. The shock of Friday was a revenge match of the US Open last year, when a Shelton, then 20, beat Tiafoe in four sets to advance in the semi-finals and celebrated, pretending to hang up The phone. Shelton continued to lose against Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. In particular, Tiafoe will avoid Djokovic this time and will rather face Australian popyrine.

Friday’s matches were good for the Americans, starting with Coco Gauff beating Elina Svitolina in three after abandoning the first set. GAUFF will now face his American colleague Emma Navarro in the fourth round this weekend.

By entering the US 2024 open, its two previous champions Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic were the favorites of the bets. Then, the tournament lost them both in its first week, in the space of two days, in a sport where the titans rarely fall against non-titans.

Djokovic was amazed by the seeded n ° 28 Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the third round Friday, a day after Alcaraz was rebounded by the tournament by Botic Van de Zandschulp. It was the first elimination of the Serbian star of a Grand Colem since the 2017 Australian Open.

The two upheavals leave the seeded Jannik Sinner as the favorite to win the US Open title, after winning the Australian Open 2024 earlier this year.

It also means that US Open 2024 will be the first Grand Chelem without Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer in the round of 16 since the 2004 France Open, while Djokovic was 17 years old (by Espn). It is a sequence of 81 tournaments.

This year will also be the first time since 2002 that no member of the Big 3 has won a slam.

As with the upheaval of Alcaraz, Djokovic was down and a break before he really feels in difficulty. Popyrin took a set up closely by regularly storming the net and having Djokovic beat him. Djokovic, always playing with non -specific injuries, could not.

Djokovic looked even worse in the second set, before finally waking up in the third and breaking the popyrine when he first chance. He failed to consolidate this break, but worked very well with the following two. Popyrin seemed to be injured late in the second set and made a lot of mistakes in the third who shouted from a person trying to keep the energy.

There were still fun points, however.

If the popyrine kept the energy, it borne fruit in the fourth set. Assated 2-2, the Australian forced four break points and finally pierced the last with a magnificent winner of Crosscourt:

The celebration that followed was noisy enough for women’s seeded n ° 2 Aryna Sabalenka, still waiting to take the court at the Arthur Ashe stadium after Midnight, local time, copied him to the training room.

Djokovic obtained the double break point in the next match, but it just gave Popyrin the opportunity to show his courage. The following four points: The winner of Popyrin Fordehand, Popyrin Ace, Popyrin Forwand Winner, Popyrin Ace. Then he broke Djokovic again except ending the match.

It was a global ugly match of Djokovic. While Alcaraz fell because he lacked his shooting signature, Djokovic continued to give points with 14 double flaws, his never in a Grand Slam match and 49 uncompvious mistakes. The Popyrin had electrical points, but he made enough mistakes himself for a younger djokovic – or healthier – probably made him pay.

Popyrin will advance to face the n ° 20 Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round, which will be the first appearance of the 25 -year -old woman after the third round of a great slam in her entire career. It was not an upheaval out of day like Van de Zandschulp on Alcaraz, however. Popyrin won the Canadian Open, a US Open development event, earlier this month and entered New York City with as much momentum as he did in his career.

In Tiafoe, he will get a powerful veteran who survived a five -hour marathon match against Ben Shelton earlier on Friday. But he already has a strong career moment.

The defeat of Djokovic at the US Open Middle 2024 will be his first year without victory at the Grand Chelem since 2017. He lost against Sinner at the Australian Open, withdrew from the French Open with a knee injury and fell in Alcaraz in the final in Wimbledon.

Djokovic at least could take advantage of his first Olympic gold this year in Paris, but at 37, he could be time to wonder how many slams he left him, especially when Alcaraz is only 21 years old and that the sinner has 23 years old.

Djokovic will have its next opportunity for a 25th slam at Australian Open next year, as well as a chance in an unprecedented 11th title in Melbourne. Only Rafael Nadal has more titles in a single Grand Slam (French Open, 14).

Emma Navarro joined a deficit of 5-1 for a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Paula Badosa Spanish in the quarterfinals of the United States on Tuesday.

Navarro goes to the turn of the semi-final on Thursday, the deepest race of the 13th seeded American has ever done during a Grand Chelem tournament. There, she will face the seeded n ° 2 Aryna Sabalenka (Bélarus), who beat the seeded n ° 7 Zheng Qinwen (China), 6-1, 6-2 Tuesday evening.

Navarro is the first of the two Americans who qualified for the semi-final on Tuesday. The seeded n ° 12 Taylor Fritz upset the seeded n ° 4 n ° 4 Alexander Zverev Tuesday afternoon to hit his ticket for the semi-final.

Navarro took early control of the match, breaking Badosa during the first opening service. She then broke Badosa to win the set, 6-2.

The match appeared for a third set after Badosa took early control in the second. Badosa broke the first Navarro service in the Ensemble, then broke it again on the way to a 5-1 advance. But with the New York crowd firmly behind Navarro at the Arthur Ashe stadium, Navarro dominated the rest of the match.

She broke Badosa to reduce her deficit to 5-3 on the way to win the last six games of the match, surprising the Spaniard to end his race at the US Open. Navarro has won 24 of the last 28 points to guarantee victory.

Navarro said after the match she had maintained her confidence even after digging a 5-1 hole in the second set.

“After resuming 5-2, I had a little idea that it could be two sets,” Navarro told ESPN after the match. “I just wanted to stay really hard and stay in there. Even if I lost the second set, I wanted to somehow set the tone for the third set.”

Navarro is now two victories from a US Open title after being eliminated in the first round in each of the previous two years. Tuesday was his second consecutive victory on a seed player after upsetting the US Open reigning champion and the seeded n ° 3 American Coco Gauff as a fourth round player on Sunday.

Navarro and Fritz are the first of the four Americans in the hope of going to the semi-final. The seeded n ° 20 Frances Tiafoe followed suit Tuesday evening with his victory over the seeded n ° 9 Grigor Dimitrov (Bulgaria). Tiafoe will now face Fritz in the American semi-finals, which guarantees that an American will play in the final of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2009.

Wednesday, seeded n ° 6, Jessica Pegula, will face the seeded n ° 1 and the champion of the US Open 2022 IGA świątek (Poland).

Between the combined efforts of Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz, an American will participate in the final of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2009.

Tiafoe and Fritz both took care of the business on Tuesday, the first leafing n ° 9 Grigor Dimitrov and the last in upheaval Alexander Zverev. Their victories have set up an American semi-final and the first time since 2005, two American men will appear in the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows.

No American has participated in a Grand Slam final since the epic defeat of Andy Roddick against Roger Federer in Wimbledon in 2009.

Playing the last match of the night, Tiafoe spent more night with a clear advantage over the veteran Dimitrov, apart from a sloppy tennis to finish the second set. He won 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 4-1, with Dimitrov retired due to an injury to the hamstrings.

The big problem for Dimitrov was a second anemic service. He lost 37 of the 59 points and committed 11 double defects with a predictable offer on which Tiafoe, a powerful player, enjoyed.

Dimitrov’s state has worsened over the match. He asked for medical care after the third set and finally retired with Tiafoe a break in fourth.

It will be Tiafoe’s second trip to the Grand Slam semi-finals after arriving at the US Open in 2022. He will have to beat a good friend and a double past partner to reach the final.

Fritz won an equality break in the first set, then rebounded after a defeat in the second set for a 7-6 victory (2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) during the second final match of the day.

Fritz’s victory over Zverev was closely challenged from the start, because none of the players have produced a break in the first set. Fritz had the chance to break for the set, but Zverev fought with three break points to equalize the 6-6 set. Fritz won the equality break, preparing the field for the upset victory.

Zverev responded with the first break from the match to take a 5-3 lead in the second, then won the set on his service. The players exchanged breaks in the third set before Fritz guarantees the whole on the service of Zverev. As in the first set, Zverev rallied from Triple Set Point to equalize the decisive match. But Fritz won his fifth point to take a 2-1 advance in the match.

The players then exchanged breaks in fourth to set up another equality break. This time, Fritz prevailed 7-3 to win the set and the match.

“I have taken a look at the quarter -finals in the past two years,” Fritz told ESPN after the match. “Today, I felt different. I really felt like it was my time to go further.”

Fritz switches to a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time in his career. The seeded n ° 1 Jannik Sinner is the favorite to advance the other half of the support.

On the female side, the seeded n ° 13 Emma Navarro joined a deficit of 5-1 in the second set on Tuesday for a victory in direct sets on the head of series n ° 26 Paula Badosa, also going to the first Semi-final of the Grand Chelem of his career.

Navarro will play the winner of the Tuesday evening match between the seeded n ° 7 Zheng Qinwen (China) and the seeded n ° 2 Aryna Sabalenka (Bélarus) in the semi-finals. N ° 6 Jessica Pegula will face the seeded n ° 1 and the champion of the United States in 2022, Iga świątek (Poland) Wednesday in the quarter-finals.

The seeded n ° 6, Jessica Pegula, amaze Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals of the United States on Wednesday evening, hitting the fourth ticket for an American in the semi-finals of the tournament.

With the victory, Pegula qualified for the semi-finals of a Grand Chelem tournament for the first time in his career. There, she will join her American colleagues Emma Navarro, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz. She will face Karolína Muchová on Thursday at the Arthur Ashe stadium.

Navarro – Remed 13th – will face the seeded n ° 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the semi -final of other women. Thursday winners will go to the championship match on Saturday.

On the male side, Tiafoe and Fritz will compete in a semi-final match on Friday, guaranteeing an American berth in the championship round, a first in a big slam since 2009. The seeded n ° 1 Jannik Sinner, while waiting , will be facing No. 25. Seed Jack Draper in the male semi-final after having beaten the n ° 5 Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Pegula took control of the first set of the opening match and did not drop. She won the first match on the Swiatek service, handing over to 26 games to 26 games. Swiatek had not been broken before since his opening victory over Kamilla Rakhimova.

During the second swiatek service, Pegula did it again. She obtained her second break from the opening to take a 3-0 lead. She maintained control of her own service and did not allow a break to the 6-2 victory. The whole took 36 minutes to finish and saw Swiatek commit 18 uncomposed mistakes. When it was done, Pegula took their place on his bench and gave a subtle hand pump.

Swiatek withdrew into the locker room, where she took a long break between the sets. When she returned to the courtyard, she had changed her colorful kit to wear all white.

Swiatek was the first to serve again in the second set. This time, she held. But Pegula broke him again during his second service to take a 2-1 lead. Swiatek returned the break to attach the whole to 2-2 before Pegula again grasped control with a break to take a 4-3 lead. She forced three points of break in the match, then attracted a standing ovation of her fans in the Arthur Ashe stadium stands after forcing Swiatek to hit largely to secure the break.

Swiatek did not break. With the match on his racket leading 5-4, Pegula delivered his third match point for the biggest victory of his career.

Pegula had already reached the quarter -final in seven Grand Colem tournaments without progress. She spoke of her breakthrough with ESPN after Wednesday’s victory.

“I have been so long and I continued to lose,” said Pegula. “But for the big players – to the girls who continued and won the tournament. I know everyone asks me about it. But I said to myself:” I don’t know what else to do. Need to go back and win it. ‘

“Thank goodness, I was able to do it. And finally, finally I can say semi-finalist.”

Pegula’s victory improved his career record against Swiatek at 6-4 and refused Swiatek a shot in his sixth Grand Colem Championship in a career. Swiatek won US Open 2022 and is a quadruple winner at the French Open. Swiatek has entered the Wednesday match guaranteed to maintain its world n ° 1 ranking, whatever the result.

Pegula will not have much time to revel in the upheaval. On Thursday, she is expected to face Muchová in the semi-finals at the Arthur Ashe stadium. Navarro – Remed 13th – will face the seeded n ° 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the semi -final of other women. Thursday winners will go to the championship match on Saturday.

The Female Singles Tournament in the United States is officially reduced to two players: the world’s n ° 2 and an American in its first Grand Slam final in a career.

N ° 6 Jessica Pegula beat Karolina Muchova 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 Thursday to qualify for her first grand final at the age of 30. Although she won six WTA events, she had never advanced beyond the quarter-final of A Grand Slam.

The final is scheduled for Saturday at the Arthur Ashe stadium.

In Muchova, Pegula faced a former top 10 player who lost most of his points after missing nine months of the previous year.

Muchova opened the match by playing as if she never left. She blitzé the two services of Pegula and won both in the net and the basic line, easily taking the first set and taking a break in the second. Pegula’s body language has clearly shown a player who was down.

“I was about to melt in tears because she made me look like a beginner. It was embarrassing,” said Pegula after the match.

Pegula responded by becoming more aggressive on the second Muchova service, while cleaning his service game. She was also helped by 19 unl forced errors of Muchova in the second set, even inviting her to the match.

The momentum was held in the third set, Pegula Brisant Muchova early and held from there to get the greatest victory of his career, with the greatest match of his waiting career.

During their third meeting of the year, the n ° 2 Aryna Sabalenka exceeded n ° 13 Emma Navarro, another American making her first appearance in the semi-final of the Grand Slam, in Straight Set, 6-3, 7- 6 (2).

Despite the crowd at the Arthur Ashe stadium on his side, enraged the oppressed, Navarro had no answer for the powerful service of Sabalenka (with seven AS) and the forehand. His speed helped her stay in the match with a strong defense. But Navarro had to play in defense often because she could not resume the game during her second service.

Just as it seemed that Navarro could repel the offensive of Sabalenka, the seeded n ° 2 surprised to fall. Showing the touch closer to the net while Navarro played to make up for the power of Sabalenka was a combination too difficult to cover. Trying to catch Navarro by surprise has sometimes led to unl forced errors.

However, Sabalenka’s trend to rely on her power sometimes leaves her subject to watching her services and returns rather than moving. Navarro took advantage of it, showing speed everywhere on the ground and sometimes catching Sabalenka flat to win points.

In the second set, Sabalenka won the breaking point with his powerful forehand, despite Navarro’s best efforts to follow. Trying to maintain its base while moving quickly side by side made Navarro slip and scratching your right knee. Although this did not inhibit her physically, it was an indication of the way Sabalenka beat her.

Finally, Navarro could not slow down the pace of Sabalenka and take more control of the match. Navarro retaliated with 4-3 and 5-4 in the second set, winning again with speed against the power of Sabalenka.

The second set turned into a confrontation of agility against power, Navarro holding Sabalenka and the frustrating it. Navarro’s speed along the base line helped her arrive and fight shots that Sabalenka thought was out of reach.

However, despite an incredible fight to force the second set to an equality break, Navarro had to play the catch -up throughout the match and he finally caught it. Sabalenka put a wall, winning 8 of the 10 points and straightening up after being frustrated not to be able to put Navarro.

Sabalenka passes to his second consecutive American open final.

Here is how everything went to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in the US Open 2024.

    Live cover is over36 updates

    • Pegula wins 1-6, 6-4, 6-2!

Seeds n ° 6 come back from a set and a break to go to his first Grand Slam final in a career. She will face Aryna Sabalenka N ° 2 on Saturday on Saturday.

    • Pegula goes up 5-2

After Muchova’s racket makes the racket, Pegula won the next two points to keep the service and ward off a victory match. She played this set in a more conservative way, leaving Muchova to go for the winners and the errors that accompany them.

    • Muchova is visibly frustrated

Muchova even pushes the match, but another missed break point left her so frustrated that she threw her racket in the air at the end of the point. Fortunately, she also caught it.

    • Pegula holds the service to increase 4-1

At 30, Pegula is two games from his first Grand Colem final in a career.

    • Pegula obtains the break to climb 2-0 the third

We went to the full back here. Pegula takes an important advance in the third set and Muchova is now shouting in his box. Now, Muchova must make an adjustment.

    • Pegula takes the second set

After having descended a set and a break, Pegula even retaliated to the match and send it to a third party from the winner. She looked much better in this set, especially after the first games, but was also helped by 19 unrecited Muchova errors in this context. She still does not win her first service, taking 13 of the 24 points in this set, but she managed to punish the second service of Muchova (12 points of 15 points).

It will be the first match of the three sets of Pegula.

    • Muchova breaks down, down 4-3

It is a second hectic set, because Muchova prevents Pegula from consolidating the break. She also seems to reach her side a little, so she could face something.

    • Pegula takes an advance of 4-2

It was a big problem. After four deces, Pegula gets his second break and is now on the right track for this match. She watched completely down there are a few games, but the pump now first and shouts. It would be quite a return.

    • Pegula obtains the break, equally 2-2

Finally. It was not the best performance for Muchova, but Pegula is back in this match.

    • Pegula climbs on the board, now down 2-1

All she has done was to keep the service, but even it seems significant for Pegula at this stage. She had to retain a break in the process. Stark Stat: she has won 10 of her 22 points at the first service so far. Muchova, meanwhile, won 15 of 19. If Pegula does not determine how to change the two in his favor, it is fundamentally finished.

    • Pegula is broken to open the second

It’s all muchova now. She won the eight points on the net and always shows a clear advantage in basic gatherings. Pegula’s body language is not encouraging and it will need a reversal.

    • Stadium Arthur Ashe trying to give PEGULA a certain life

New York’s crowd does its best to raise the only American on the left in the female field, giving it a good reputation on its first point won in the second set.

    • Muchova takes the first set 6-1

It was easy, at least after the breaking points. Muchova was everywhere on the field, feasting on the two and second services of Pegula and launched 11 winners of the three in Pegula to take the first set in a convincing manner. If Pegula does not start to date, we are considering a match below the time.

    • Then Muchova obtains the break, at the top 3-1

The Czech veteran looks clear so far, or at least sharper than Pegula, who has made three unl forced errors and mainly made a match she needed to win.

    • Karolina Muchova survives the first big game of the match, leads 2-1

A par tie 1-1, Muchova pushed three break points to keep the service in a marathon match. There were very good points in there.

    • Muchova takes the first game without too much problem

Two unrefitted errors of Pegula, let’s see how she reacts.

    • Muchova and Pegula now take the court

Two players who treated injuries for most of the year, now playing for their first open American final. Pegula is a favorite -155 on BETMGM.

    • Sabalenka wins 6-3, 7-6 (2)

Emma Navarro led an incredible fight to force the second set to an equality break. From there, however, Aryna Sabalenka put a wall, winning 8 of the 10 points and straightening up after being frustrated not to be able to put Navarro.

Navarro had to play the catch -up throughout the match and he finally caught it. Sabalenka passes to his second consecutive American open final.

    • Sabalenka is right herself

Just as the whole seemed to slip for Sabalenka, she remembers with a puffy return to which Navarro cannot go, despite her best effort. She needed that one.

We are at a 6-6 equality break. Agility against power.

    • Sabalenka is frustrated

An inability to store Navarro is frustrating Sabalenka. Consequently, it becomes sloppy and strikes balls in the net.

For the moment, Sabalenka does not seem to have answers and is looking for his coaches to get help. Meanwhile, Navarro wins steam and the crowd gives it energy while it takes an advantage of 6-5.

  • US Open Men’s Semifals: Taylor Fritz beats Frances Tiafoe; will face Jannik Sinner in the final

The tournaments in male and female singles of the US Open of 2024 produced some surprises at the end, with new names making deep races to go to the semi-finals. In the female draw, Jessica Pegula, making her first final appearance of the Grand Slam, will face Aryna Sabalekena for the title on Saturday, and the male tournament will have an American player who will also make his first major final.

Taylor Fritz won a five sets endurance match against Frances Tiafoe in the first US Open semi-final between American players since 2005.

After a match that went back and forth, with the two players who exchange services and long rallies, Fritz finally broke the service of Tiafoe to win the fourth set. And it seemed that he had finally worn Tiafoe, winning the fifth set in a decisive way.

Fritz finished 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 to go to the US Open and will face Jannik Sinner during the final on Sunday.

Tiafoe rocked the first assaults that led to several errors against Fritz. However, he calmed down and began to assert himself with powerful forehand and extended rallies that sent Fritz everywhere in the court to defend. Finally, Tiafoe rallied to win a first set which initially seems lost.

The second set was much more a back and forth matter, neither of the two players capable of breaking the service of the other. Fritz, in particular, had more difficulty in rendering the service of Tiafoe.

But Fritz finally recovered and carried Tiafoe, sending him rib through the field and showing a strong forehand. Although Tiafoe forced the set at 5-5, Fritz won nine of the 10 points to prevent a break in equality and win the second set.

In the third set, Fritz tried to change his approach by playing more aggressively in the net rather than staying back. However, he could not break the service of Tiafoe, often making shufflers by trying to come back. While Fritz was trying to stand, Tiafoe a lean with crossed blows that could not be captured.

However, Fritz returned immediately and was held to start the fourth set. Abandoning the net game, he took the game in Tiafoe with powerful and long rally services. But while Fritz went ahead, Tiafoe joined the set. Fritz finally forced a fifth set by breaking the service of Tiafoe.

Friday, the male semfinal began with the n ° 1 Jannik sinner beating n ° 25 Jack draper in the straight sets 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-2, but it was in no way simple that the score indicates.

The match was played in the hot heat of New York, the two players fighting fatigue. Draper had the worst, sweating through his first two shirts and seeming to vomit twice in a second exhausting set. It took place an hour and 29 minutes, the second longer of the tournament.

Not helping was the fact that the two men played their games in the quarter -finals a day earlier.

Sinner displayed the shape you expect from a superior seed, even after seeming to injure the wrist during the second set. His service was fantastic, winning 76% of the points, and he won more than his share of entertainment against the 22 -year -old draper.

Sinner passes to his first American open final, after having already won his first Grand Chelem this year at Australian Open. He should be favored on Sunday against Fritz, the first American in the final since 2006 and the first to qualify for a Grand Chelem final since 2009.

Here is how Friday’s action took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in the US Open 2024.

    • Taylor Fritz beats Frances Tiafoe, 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1

After Fritz broke Tiafoe to win the fourth set, Tiafoe did not seem to have many things for the fifth. He looked tired and frustrated while Fritz seemed to gain strength and confidence.

Fritz will face Jannik Sinner on Sunday’s final, scheduled for 2 p.m. he.

    • Tiafoe obtains a well -necessary break

With the crowd trying to lift it, Tiafoe fights to break the Fritz service and finally win a match. Fritz rolled, so that may not be enough. But it is a break and could give Tiafoe the refreshment he needs to go up in a whole that he seemed to lose badly.

    • Fritz now 4-0

Tiafoe is not used as well in this fifth set and Fritz is capitalized. He seems to try to regain control, but Fritz does not give. And Tiafoe shows her frustration, throwing her racket towards his seat.

    • Fritz controlling the rhythm now

Taylor Fritz could finally take control of this match in the fifth set. He started by keeping service, then broke Frances Tiafoe to set up 2-0.

Tiafoe seems to get tired – which would be understandable – because Fritz gives the rhythm and moves it everywhere on the ground.

    • Tiafoe-Fritz goes to a fifth set

Fritz breaks the service of Tiafoe and this match goes to a fifth set. Fritz wins the fourth, 6-4.

It seemed intended for five sets from the start and it is not disappointing.

    • Fritz goes up 5-4

Fritz apparently abandoned by trying to play the net as hard, trying to force the action in Tiafoe with hard drives of the base line. This seems to work when it goes up 5-4 overall with Tiafoe now.

    • How was this match even?

    • Fritz Durage

This is a type of endurance correspondence different from the previous semi-final when the humidity has mired Jannik Sinner and Jack Draper. Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz go from start to finish,

Fritz, however, goes ahead of 4-3 after Tiafoe pushed it to do so 3-3. This match begins to seem to be heading for a fifth set.

    • Fritz takes 2-1 advance

Fritz held the service again, corresponding to Tiafoe to almost all returns. It is not going in this fourth set, and Tiafoe should not expect him to do it.

    • Fritz holds to start the fourth set

Fritz does not back down to start the fourth set. He won four points with his first four services. This may be how he regains control of the Tiafoe match.

The two had one of the best exchanges of the match, going back and forth on several returns before Fritz finally won the point for an advance of 2-1.

    • Tiafoe wins the third set, 6-4

Fritz keeps used to obtain in 5-4. But Tiafoe wins the game point, supporting Fritz again with his service.

Whether it is tired or simply cannot regain control of the rhythm, Tiafoe seems to take control of the match while he heads for the fourth set.

    • Fritz cannot break the tiafoe service

The tiafoe service frequently blocks Fritz so that it cannot return it. Fritz was also unable to catch up with Tiafoe’s crusader. Tiafoe takes a 5-3 lead while Fritz will serve.

    • Fritz plays more in the third set

Rather than staying back as he did, especially in the first set, Fritz plays more aggressively on the net in the third set. However, he plays more defense while Tiafoe holds the service and takes a 3-1 lead.

    • Tiafoe Brise Fritz to start the third set

Tiafoe was unable to break Fritz’s service during the second set, but the third set begins by doing this exactly.

Just when it seems that a player can gain an advantage, the other recovers. Really a back and forth battle at the Arthur Ashe stadium so far.

    • Fritz takes the second set, 7-5

The Fritz game game holds Tiafoe yields. He won nine of the 10 points, preventing Tiafoe from getting a break in equality and taking the second set, 7-5.

This match even goes to a third set.

    • Fritz cannot put the match point

With Fritz serving at Match Point, Tiafoe finds another equipment to cross the court several times for returns and won two points to equalize the set at 5-5.

    • Fritz a tiafoe run

This time, it was Fritz who has Tiafoe who goes back and forth on the field trying to follow his return and a blistering forehand. Tiafoe goes almost in the stands trying to catch up with a volley and Fritz capitalizes.

    • Fritz holds the service

Fritz may have taken control of the whole, maintaining the service for an advance of 5-4. But this has been a back and forth match so far. The way it happens, Tiafoe could link it to its next service.

    • Tiafoe’s reverse looks deadly

Tiafoe wins the very point of the set at 4-4. His reverse was particularly strong, burning the crossed ball of the scope of Fritz.

    • Neither of the two players giving in to the service

Are we heading for a five-set match? He starts to look like this way because Fritz and Tiafoe hold the service. A possible break in equality to come while Fritz leads 4-3. Tiafoe to serve.

Billie Jean King was again recognized for its irreplaceable impact on female sports.

Friday, the legend of tennis officially received the Congress gold medal, making it the first individual female athlete to receive the honor. The bill behind his appointment specifically recognizes “his courageous and revolutionary leadership in the progression of equal rights for women in athletics, education and society”.

This bill was presented for the first time on September 20, 2023, the 50th anniversary of the “Battle of the Sexes”, in which King defeated the former male n ° 1 in the most tennis match looked at all time.

Before King, the only women to win the prize were the female members of the 1980 American Olympic team, who were prevented from participating in the games due to the boycott led by the Americans of the Soviet Union host.

The complete list of athletes to win the Congress Gold Medal is:

    1. Roberto Clemente (1973)

    2. 1980 US Summer Olympic Team (1980)

    3. Joe Louis (1982)

    4. Jesse Owens (1988)

    5. Jackie Robinson (2003)

    6. Byron Nelson (2006)

    7. Arnold Palmer (2009)

    8. Jack Nicklaus (2014)

    9. Larry Doby (2018)

    10. Steve Gleason (2019)

    11. Greg Lemond (2020)

    12. Willie O’Ree (2022)

    13. Billie Jean King (2024)

King also received the presidential medal of freedom by Barack Obama in 2009. She was also the first female athlete to win this award. Before King, only five other athletes had won the Liberty Medal and the Congress Gold Medal: Clemente, Owens, Robinson, Palmer and Nicklaus.

It is difficult to think of a single person who has made a bigger brand on female sports than the 80 -year -old king. Its heritage goes far beyond its excellence in the field, which includes 39 Grand Chelem titles (12 in single, 16 in double and 11 in mixed double).

The field of female sports would be unrecognizable today if it was not for the King Foundation of the Virginia Slims circuit, and later the WTA. Frustrated by the disparity of wages between men and women in tennis, King and eight other athletes have formed the escape tour and found financial success with their own sponsors and television partners. King’s victory in the “sex battle” was also a historic moment for female sports.

Today, all the main tennis tournaments award a price equal to men and women, an aberration of other sports.

King has also been widely recognized as a pioneer of the LGBTQ community, confirming his identity as a lesbian in 1981 and serving as a symbol for homosexual rights since.

  • Rafael Nadal loses against Botic Van de Zandschulp in Davis Cup in last match before retirement

Rafael Nadal’s final match before retirement was the defeat of the Davis Cup on Tuesday against Botic Van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands, and it came out exactly as it should: the fights.

The dashboard has read 6-4, 6-4 in favor of Van de Zandschulp, but these figures do not tell the story of all the small battles and tiny wars that make up a tennis match-this one in particular . Rafa, an icon of his country of origin, Spain, started strongly and scratched an advance of a match which he managed to hold up to 4-3 in the first set.

But the sharpness he had shown started in Ternes, and we saw the nadal less precise and more familiar from last year. His service, which had been tall and blister during his first four service games, began to drop him. He abandoned his head thanks to several double faults and missed shots, and soon Van de Zandschulp had taken over and won the first set.

Nadal could not get on the second set from the start. Van de Zandschulp zoomed in 2-0 before Rafa won a match, then won the next two to increase 4-1.

But then we saw the fighter. Nadal was not going to go down like that. He fought against victories in two consecutive games to give himself a chance to 3-4 to make the dramatic return that the crowd wanted.

The end of the stories book would have been magical, but it was not supposed to be. Rafa managed to win one more match, while Van de Zandschulp won two to win the set and the match. The Netherlands ended up eliminating Spain in the quarter-finals.

Overall, a microcosm of the last years of his career was very appropriate. There were moments of shine when we could see Nadal making magnificent plans that he alone could try, perhaps for the last time.

But these moments were surrounded by reminders that Rafa is 38 years old and that his body can simply no longer follow.

It is not a secret, nor something shameful that no one should talk about. For professional athletes, this day still comes. And if Nadal was denying on this subject, he would not retire. Accepting this means that there is no shame in losing; It’s just time to move on.

And Rafa will move on as one of the most loved tennis players of his generation, or any generation.

Novak Djokovic has appointed a new member of his team of coaches while he is preparing to compete for his 25th Grand Chelem trophy at Australian Open in January. The name of the new member? Andy Murray.

Yes, that Andy Murray. The British tennis player who won two Grand Chelem trophies and withdrew from sport last summer at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Helping to train his former rival has been his first move since his end of his professional career.

“I will join the Novak team during the offseason, the caregiver to prepare for the Australian Open,” Murray said in a statement. “I am really excited and I can’t wait to spend time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping her achieve his goals.”

Djokovic and Murray, who are both 37 years old (they were born in the week of each other in 1987), were rivals on the ground at the apogee of Murray at the start and in the mid -2010. Djokovic To the advantage in his 36 career confrontations, winning 25 in Murray from 11. If you just look at the top finals, Djokovic beat Murray 11 times while Murray beat Djokovic eight times. But in large slams, Djokovic absolutely possessed Murray with a file of 8-2.

There are more secrets hidden in this record of 25-11. Murray lost against Djokovic four times in six years in the Australian Open final (2011, 2015, 2015, 2016), which could raise eyebrows during this decision. But beating a player does not mean you have nothing to learn from them. Murray never won the Australian Open, but he did the last five times, which meant that he was doing something good.

Djokovic mentioned his Australian open story with Murray in his declaration.

“I am delighted to have one of my greatest rivals on the same side of the net, like my trainer.” Djokovic said. on Australian soil. »»

That the Australian open story, as well as their personal history shared as a long -standing competitors, are two things that Djokovic mentioned in a video of media threw that Djokovic told and published on Saturday on social networks, and were probably important factors in Djokovic’s decision to bring Murray on board.

The Australian Open begins on January 12, 2025.
