Lewis Hamilton insists that Ferrari’s F1 car is “nothing like this” his previous cars for Mercedes and McLaren while the Scuderia published the British’s first official interview with the team.

Hamilton joined the legendary Italian outfit after 18 seasons – 12 with Mercedes, six with McLaren – to be propelled by Mercedes power units.

As such, a passage to Ferrari represents something completely different, with a new chassis and a new engine. After testing the Ferrari 2023 car on January 22 in Fiorano, the seven times world champion spoke with shine his first experience in the scarlet red cockpit.

“It doesn’t look like the car I had before 10, 12, 17 years old,” said Hamilton, in his first official interview in Ferrari Colors.

“It is unique in itself. To feel the vibration of the Ferrari engine for the first time, wow! This is what I think I finally put the biggest smile on my face.

“I had always seen all the pilots who had preceded me in red and what it would look like me, and it is a real honor to wear this badge and this costume. I hope I go out and make it look good.

Hamilton also thought about his first days for the team, which included a delighted reception of Ferrari HQ staff and fans in Maranello.

“There is only a handful of special times in life,” he said.

“The first kiss, the first meeting, the first time, the first time in work. Honestly, I thought I had all my first and nothing was ever going to be new.

“I have run for so long … and even I am surprised to see how much I still like what I do and I felt so new.”

Wednesday, Hamilton led this year’s car, the SF-25, for the first time in Fiorano. He should speak to the media later during the day.

The British driver was unveiled in Ferrari Red in a home crowd at F1 75 Lond in London on Tuesday evening, alongside his teammate Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton’s next foray into the SF-25 will be at the official pre-season test next week in Bahrain. The first race of the season takes place in Australia on March 16.
