F1 2025 season: calendar, ranges of pilots, new livery, sprints and tests

The one 2024 formula season ended with Max Verstappen as pilot champion for the fourth consecutive year, but that does not tell the whole story. McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes have all won several races with McLaren winning their first manufacturers’ championship in 26 years.

The first action of 2025 is not too far. After a lot of media threshing, Lewis Hamilton joined Ferrari after more than a decade in Mercedes. He had his first outing in the famous red car in Maranello as he continued his acclimatization program.

As always, there is not too much time before the start of the 2025 season by pre-season tests in Bahrain, then the Australian Grand Prix for the opening of the season. Here is a bottom on everything you need to know before what could be one of the great years of F1.

When do pre-season tests take place?

As for last season, the 2025 season will only have one official pre-season test. This takes place from Wednesday, February 26 to Friday, February 28, included at the International Circuit Sakhir in Bahrain. It has not yet been confirmed, but the format should be three days of two four -hour sessions with a one hour lunch break between the two.

When is the first race of the 2025 season?

Unlike 2024, the new season begins with the Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park in Melbourne. This takes place from Friday March 14 to Sunday March 16.

How many races will there be in 2025?

For the second time in the history of F1, the season will include 24 Grand Prix and six sprint races, ending in the season final in Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi on December 8.

When and where are sprint races?

They are in China, Miami, Belgium, Austin, Sao Paulo and Qatar. The format will remain the same in that there will be sprint qualifications to define the grid for the Sprint race and eight world championship points are allocated for the winner to a point for the eighth finisher.

In short, the weekends of the Sprint 2024 race are as follows.

Chinese Grand Prix, March 21-23
Miami Grand Prix, May 2-4
Belgian Grand Prix, from July 25 to 27
Grand Prix of the United States, from October 17 to 19
Sao Paulo Grand Prix, November 7-9
Qatar Grand Prix, November 28-30

When is the summer break?

2024 contained both an official summer break – including a compulsory two -week stop period for all the staff of the F1 team – and an unofficial fall break with three weekends in a row. However, this has disappeared from the 2025 calendar with the races generally a little more spread.

July and August may be less eventful than they were, with a three-week gap between the British Grand Prix on July 6 and the Belgian Grand Prix on July 27. This year’s summer break begins after the Belgian Grand Prix, on Monday August 4. The action returns on Friday August 29 with the practice of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.

What do new car deliveries look like?

The cars of the 2025 F1 class were unveiled with the very first unified launch event of the sport, which took place at the O2 Arena on Tuesday, February 18. While the cars they take at tests will probably be different with regard to aerodynamic parts, deliveries are those in which the teams will run for the coming season.

What are the pilot programs?

There are quite a few changes to the grid in 2025, Sergio Perez being released by Red Bull the latest news. There are also no six recruits of the season in the middle of the grid. Yes, Oliver Bearman, Jack Doohan and Liam Lawson all participated in races, but none of them started a season before. They are joined by Kimi Antonelli in Mercedes, Isack Hadjar in RB and Gabriel Bortoleto in Sauber, who have never run in F1.

There are also changes elsewhere while Lewis Hamilton makes his Ferrari debut, Carlos Sainz moves to Williams, Esteban Ocon passes to Haas and Nico Hulkenberg moves from Haas to Sauber.

How to watch F1 on TV and streaming

As has been the case for some time now, in the United Kingdom, Sky Sports F1 has almost exclusive coverage rights for the season. They will show all training sessions, qualification sessions, sprint qualifications and races throughout the season. Pre-season test also probably.

Channel 4 will again have its strong qualifications and its highlights, with the British Grand Prix in July Broadcast Live.
