Tiger Woods returns to Golf while TGL continues the full week of matches

TGL, the interior golf league which serves as a nice bridge between the holidays and the Masters, continued a strong sequence of matches on Tuesday evening in a battle between the New York Golf Club of Rickie Fowler and the Jupiter of Golf of Tiger Woods. New York was right for the battle, exploding Jupiter by a final score of 10-3.

The evening has marked the first Woods public golf course since his loss of mother last week. He intended to play in Genesis Invitational from last week, but retired as a player of this event when he continued to cry. He briefly visited the Genesis on Sunday as an animator of the tournament, then joined Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim on Tuesday to play against Fowler, Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick.

New York GC has entered the match as weaker from the six TGL teams, with a 0-2 file and a 2-12 record in all the holes played. Jupiter was slightly better at 1-1, with a 4-12 file in won holes. But New York jumped to a strong advance, winning the first hole after Woods missed a 5 feet to equalize, then capturing seven other consecutive points to exercise an advance of 8-0 through eight holes.

Although there were difficulties – in particular Jupiter, which did not seem to keep the ball in play – the two teams had moments of individual excellence. Kevin Kisner, so often the butt of jokes during his first TGL play rounds, almost came huge at the start of Tuesday’s match:

But it was Fowler who had the early shot of the match, relaxing almost 200 “yards” from the virtual hole.

The two teams quickly used the newly updated TGL hammer rules, which give each team three hammers to launch in order to double the value of the hole. Jupiter’s hammer on the second hole remained unused while the hole was half reduced, but the first New York hammer on the third hole enabled Fowler and Co. to get a quick two points on the board.

Kim finally stopped the bleeding of Jupiter, winning the last hole of the triples with a 12 -foot putt which has just captured the right edge of the cup. With the advantage of a thrown hammer, Kim’s Putt sent the match in simple with New York at the top of 8-2.

The most absurd moment of the match – and perhaps the most absurd moment of the brief history of TGL – came when Woods thought that the distance to the spit was 99 meters, and he pulled a corner at 100 meters The hole. The problem was that it was 199 yards; He had misunderstood the distance.

“It was one of the most embarrassing things that happened,” said Woods. “I can’t believe it has just happened.”

In the first hole of the singles, Woods overwhelmed young people to take another point. But Fowler rebounded with a victory over Kisner to extend the advance to 9-3. Jupiter launched his last hammer on the 12th, but could not take advantage of because Kim and Fitzpatrick have half the hole. Young took revenge on Woods on the 13th, adding another point in a total of New York. Kisner and Fowler equalized the 14th, and Kim and Fitzpatrick reduced by half the 15th, to put the final score to 10-3. The night completely marked the turnaround for NYGC, who won the two holes in his two previous games.

“It was somehow a tacit thing,” said Fowler. “We were going to need a big night at one point to at least advance the Mojo and the momentum in the right direction. Delighted to do it tonight compared to a match or two.”

On the largest scale, Tuesday has closed the most active week of TGL to date with development. The Jupiter-New York match was not as competitive as the three redouches on Monday, but the presence of Tiger Woods gave the evening a high air. TGL seems to find its groove, and the combination of celebrities and tight matches should keep fans at the last weeks of the League season.

TGL returns next Monday with a double-head, Los Angeles against New York at 5 p.m. He and Boston against Atlanta at 9 p.m. he. The two games will be on ESPN2.
